This spring and summer I’m excited to teach some sewing courses to children and adults using the Teagan T-Shirt pattern in March, May, June and July 2026. Has anyone else taught sewing courses using an FreeSewing designs? I’ll share my full experience after the courses, but here’s the basic plan:
Take measurements, print the pattern, practice some serging/coverstitch, then get to making the shirt. For the kids course, it’s 15 hours over 5 days, so we’ll revise and make a second shirt. For the adults, it’s a one day 6 hour course.
This is a very cool idea. The smile on your student’s face, and the story about his wife were great.
I don’t know enough to teach a class, but I have toyed with the idea of a YouTube channel to document my sewing journey as a beginner, using FreeSewing patterns.
I recently completed my June course for 12-14 year olds. Overall it went great. On the pattern drafting side there were a few students whose patterns didn’t draft very well due to taking measurements too high into the armpit (rather than where the bottom of a well-fitting underarm seam would be expected). I’ll be sure to reiterate this in the measurement taking for my July course. I’m also likely to use the Teagan T-Shirt pattern for my upcoming garment sewing cruise: Cruises — Bespoke Jam
