Hi Joost, Thanks for the help so far. Again, I am a beginner so if I ask inappropriate questions, please feel free to ignore me. However, please let me know if it will be possible to develop a shirt pattern that incorporates a functional back yoke and side panels? I wish to be knowledgeable and a practitioner of the best tailoring techniques. Kindly advise.
We currently do not have such a pattern, but one can be developed. All of our designs are created by volunteers. I’m not aware of anyone that is looking at adding or changing a shirt design as of now.
In addition to what Wouter already pointed out, it’s worth pointing out that we do have a shirt pattern with a back yoke. It’s named Simon: https://freesewing.eu/designs/simon/
It does not have side panels, and given that it has a large amount of options, adding that would be non-trivial.
That being said, if you start from Simon, it should be easy to slash it and add the side panels yourself.
As Joost said, the Simon shirt already has a back yoke. However, I wonder if by “functional back yoke” you mean a back yoke seam that incorporates some curvature for better fitting? If so, take a look at the “Round back” option on Simon, since that’s what it does.
