When your yoke burrito comes out inside out!

So I was gaining confidence, as only a beginner can, and started work on my fourth Thread Theory Fairfield men’s button-up shirt. I’ve got this down, right? I can do this with my eyes closed, right?

Well I think I did have my eyes closed when I did the “yoke burrito” move, because I tried it on and saw this in the mirror:

Those are not epaulettes on my shoulders, but rather a backwards, partially inside-out burrito!

I dunno. Would you call it an otirrub? (Burrito, backwards)

I’m not asking for help (I just used my seam ripper and started over), I just thought someone might get a laugh at me … uhhh … laugh with me!

Now that I think about it, this is similar to what happened when I made my first Shale Shorts!

 I did my first burrito roll a couple of weeks ago and screwed it up the first time. It came out okay the second time and was incredibly satisfying.

Yeah, you do all this work that seems like nonsense, and then unroll it and – voila!

What were you making?

I am making the Simon shirt for my husband. It is almost done, then I’ll post a picture. Knock on wood, it is turning out quite nicely.

Hey, only partially inside out is not so bad :-)!

I have bad news for you though - no matter how experienced a sewer you are, you can still do stuff like that. It’s a matter of how focused you are on the task at hand rather than a skill, so you’re always vulnerable. Dont sew while half asleep!

Haha, thanks. A few sewists at a local sewing group told me that, too.

I worked more on that shirt yesterday, and was going to finish it off with the buttonholes & buttons last night, but thought better of it. So I’m learning!

Maybe I’ll post a photo today if I finish it.
