Triangular Bella Pattern

Hi there! I’ve generated a Bella pattern and started to make it, however I’ve realised the bottom is really triangular and I don’t think it will end up being straight. Is this normal or do I need to print out again and restart? Thank you!

These are my measurements:

This doesn’t look normal, and I would check these measurements. Measurements that look suspicious include:

  • The shoulder slope is pretty high. For most people it is about 12°.
  • High bust being larger than chest circumference implies you have no (or very little) boobs, but then there would be no reason why hps-to-waist-front would be larger than hps-to-waist-back
  • Waist back being only a little bit more than half of shoulder-to-shoulder or only a quarter of the chest circumference is quite extreme. It should probably be closer to half the waist circumference.

But also note that Bella is only a block and not a finished design. It’s supposed to fit mostly the chest area and you probably have to lengthen and modify it somehow to create something wearable.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply!

My shoulders are very sloped however I will check this measurement.

I do also have very small chest.

I think one potential issue when it comes to measuring HPS to anywhere down the front is (without wanting to be too crass) I have a very significant flat gap going down my chest (e.g my boobs are set very wide apart and they don’t touch at all). Therefore depending on where the tape measure is placed on my shoulder I could get an entirely different reading. Should it be placed so it goes across the fullest part of my bust?

I was thinking that about waist back… where abouts should the tape measure curve around to when measuring waist back? I think my husband just measured straight across my back, but does it need to curve halfway around the sides?

Sorry for more questions!

Yes, you want the tape measure to pass over your bust point. Take a look at the images accompanying the measurement descriptions to help figure out where to place the measuring tape. Even though I usually know how to take measurements, I always check the images just to make sure I’m doing it right

For waist back, you’re measuring from side seam to side seam across the back of your waist. It can be a little hard to see in the measurement image because the arm of the model is covering the side view of the tape measure placement
