So I want to make these pants, but first I need to understand the pattern. I don’t understand how to cut the pattern or how to modify it to make pants from this image. I want to know how to trace or modify the pattern manually on paper from basic pattern

They look close to our waralee wrap pants: Waralee wrap pants | FreeSewing

So check those out. However your pattern doesn’t seem to have straps, I’m not sure how those small bits at the front are attached. Would need to figure that out.

My guess would be hook and bar or buttons on the inside. I’m sure there are other options, but those are the ones I’ve seen most commonly on waistband fastenings.

I am also new to sewing and am currently trying the waralee pants. I love the figure flattering style of these. I think you could probably use a bar/hook to fasten them but the waralee design shows a tie in the front or the back or both. I seem to remember these pants from the late 1970’s called diaper shorts that were similar and ties in front and back. I just printed out my design and will attempt these if I can figure it out. You may want to start with this pattern as well. Good luck!
