Shoulder Seam Shift: Armhole Side: Why does the sleeve change?

In order to shift the shoulder seam forward, I increased both ‘Shoulder Seam Shifts’ from 0% to 100% just to see what changes. The ‘Collar Side’ behaves the way I think it should behave: the fronts and the yoke change accordingly.

But the Armhole Side shift changes the sleeve completely. It is weird: it becomes wider and shorter and the arm opening spline seems to become longer. I cannot explain what’s happening here, and why.

I do see that the Armhole Side shift also shortens the yoke at the back – OK, this explains why the back changes at the top. But why does the sleeve change? If I change the yoke height, the sleeve does not change.

I’d have expected that what happens would be similar to cutting off a piece at the front pattern and glueing it to the yoke pattern. But much more is going on.

The sleeve change freaks me out so much that I am thinking of not shifting it in the editor, but instead to use scissors and tape after printing the pattern. This would defeat the purpose of the editor, however. I’d prefer to understand what the editor is doing and why.

Looks like it’s measuring the back sleeve opening incorrectly, but I’m not super sure where the issue in the code is.

I agree with your idea to ignore the setting and doing it manually for now.

Thank you for clarifying so quickly and filing a bug ticket! :+1:

Thanks for reporting this, and thanks to Jonathan for creating the issue.

This is not supposed to happen, so we’ll need to have a look at it. It’s almost certainly my fault
