Problems Drafting Pattern w Charlie, Facings + Pockets?

Hi all! I’m trying to draft the Charlie Chinos pattern and I’m getting some errors I’m not able to decipher. I do have a full measurement profile filled out (and double checked them too).

The error seems to be with fly facing + pocket bags.. but not sure? Here’s the full error message:

I’m experiencing the same issue. I’ve gone back and re-measured the person at least 3 times. ALL THE MEASUREMENTS! Adhering to the measurement tips and all…but I still get these errors. I tried going into the pattern and trying to just take the “Fly” out of the equation because I was going to make it ‘Broadfall’ style with button-on flap instead of a fly, but it still wouldn’t reload as a pattern no matter what I change or try…if you get answers or help I’d like to know the ‘trick’ too

Hopefully someone better informed will soon jump in, till there I will share my guesses:

Can you double check there is really no problem with measurements, there is sometimes confusion with some of the measurements.

I am talking about those 3 vertical measurements:

“waist to hips” should be smaller than “waist to seat” should be smaller than “waist to upper legs”

Validate your measurements set

You can go to your “profile” > “Your Measurement Sets” > “choose the set” > “validate measurements”

There will be “Here is what the automated analysis found:” and you can also click bellow on “I understand, render my body preview”

If you want, you can also send us the measurements (if you’re okay with making them public), or the full browser URL of the pattern that fails to render (this will also include measurements and options).

This makes it easy to reproduce the issue and isolate the problem to either a bad measurement or some issue in the pattern.

That only works if you have a measurement in every single box

Ad Jonathan said, it’s easier to help people when they share their measurements. A link to the pattern should do the trick.

The being said, this problem is often related to vertical measurements. Waist to hips, waist to seat, waist to upper leg.

So look at those first

apologies for the delay - life and such!

Here is the link with measurements. I did validate measurements and double checked those used in pattern.

I note that if you change the Cross Seam Front measurement from 13.5" to 13.6", the pattern drafts without error though a bit strange-looking. I’m looking further into it.

Edit: added: I note that if you keep Cross Seam Front at 13.5", and instead change the Waist to Hips measurement from 9" to 7", the pattern drafts without error. And, the resulting pattern also looks better.

The pattern also drafts and looks better if you change Waist to Seat from 11" to 15" and Waist to Upper Leg from 13" to 16".

(I would take another look at the vertical measurements you are using: Waist to Hips, Waist to Seat, and Waist to Upper Leg, and just confirm that you are taking them at the locations listed in the FreeSewing docs: Measurements we use | FreeSewing )

I would double check the vertical position of the hips measurement, mainly. As a rough guideline, waist to hips is approximately half of waist to seat for many people.

For comparison, my measurements are roughly 5” waist to hips, 10” waist to seat and 14” waist to upper legs. Rounded a bit since I measured in centimeters.

Charlie has a pretty low rise by default anyway. If you combine that with a too far down hips position, which Charlie uses to position the waistband, stuff breaks, since there not enough room for the front zipper and so on.
