Hello, new here and need help with Bruce boxer shorts pattern

Hello,
I have been sewing for years, and just discovered Freesewing, exaclty when I had decided to make boxershorts for my toddler, using up fabric scraps. So got started very excited!

I measured, entered the measurements in cm, made a few adjustments (I find the UI is pretty self-explanatory). However, when I export the pattern and print it, it is about the size of a small doll. The control box has the right size, so it is not about the printer settings.

I opened all sizes A4 to A0, but it always looks the same tiny as on the printed A4 sheet. I doubled checked the measurements in the pattern heading and they are also correct.

What am I doing wrong?

It could be an issue with printing scale. Export as a pdf in A4, then open the file in a pdf reader that allows you to set the scale to full or 100% and try again.

Many systems automatically scale down pdf prints to ensure all the information on the page is included on the same page as that is often more important than scale accuracy.

I think you should double-check the vertical measurements. The difference between waist-to-hips and waist-to-seat is only 4cm. That hardly seems like a reasonable amount of space in which to generate the entire (vertical) boxers.

In general, problems with unexpected results are typically due to vertical measurements as they are a lot less intuitive (easier to get significantly wrong).

The waist-to-hips measurement controls where the top of the boxers will be drafted. The wait-to-upperleg controls the bottom (lowest part). Since this is only 4cm, something is off, even for a toddler that seems unlikely to be accurate

hmm, I exported it in A4 (and then also A3, A2 and A0) but it appears always too small, even on the screen. Printer setting is to 100% and the control box is 4x2cm as it should be. And even just looking at the onscreen A4, it seems way to small :frowning:

It’s great that you are able to look into the measurements  I did indeed struggle with those measurements on a toddler. But then I did like the graphics say: waist is a little above the belly button. I will try this again, with an existing boxer shorts, and see how that goes. Thanks for now!

That’s all as it should be. It’s just good to check, as that’s been the cause of some issues when printing, for myself and for others.

The likely culprit is, as Joost says, your vertical measurements.

For reference, my daughter is 5 years old, around 115cm tall. Her waist is 65cm, her waist to hip is 15cm and waist to knee is 38cm, approximately (I didn’t check which measurements were needed before taking those ones quickly as she’s getting ready for bed).

Thanks Steaky, that is great to have some similar reference values. This will help when I will measure again. For fun I just increased the waist → hip and waist→ upper leg and it looks already better.
If I don’t post again, then it worked out.
