In case anyone wants to start using Mastodon, the open-source and decentralized social media network, FreeSewing hosts its own freesewing.social Mastodon server that you can create an account on.
I’m not an expert in social media, but I’ve been using Mastodon for a little while, if anyone needs help using it. My understanding is that it is very similar to Twitter in the way that it works, except that user accounts are spread across many different servers as opposed to one central server.
FreeSewing’s Mastodon account is: @freesewing@freesewing.social
To further clarify: While everyone can join FreeSewing’s Mastodon instance, we do verify all accounts (to avoid spam/bots).
So you will need to request to get an account, and somebody (me) will approve it. Bonus points for giving a short description so we know you’re not a bot.
Joining the FreeSewing Mastodon instance does allow you to interact with other Mastodon servers. You just need any server to be able to join the larger fediverse (as they call it).
