  • TBD

May 23, 2026 Community Call

Notes:

  • Miscellaneous chit-chat.
    • Summer is here. 23 Celsius.
    • Fabric store visit for hook and loop tape.
    • Screen curtains for doors.
    • Plastic strip curtains for doors.
    • Spider infestation.
    • Weasel/pine marten in the yard.
    • AI seems to have made everything bad and has made work bad.
    • There are many holidays in Belgium in May: Labor Day May 1. Pentecost Monday. Europe Day. And, it is summer in Belgium now. 30 Celsius.
    • Michelin restaurant guide cancelled their Green Star award for sustainable restaurants.
    • Trying to making a Simone for a doll. The darts are very small to sew.
    • “TETO”? Related to text-to-synthesized-voice singing. Writing songs.
    • Sleeping on your back good for you?
  • Joost: Started porting FreeSewing from Docusaurus to Vite. https://vite.dev
    • Needed because intermittently Tailwind/Docsaurus conflicts have caused problems.
    • The previous React components refactoring has helped.
      • But, more refactoring is needed.
      • Problems because the components need to work both with website and the studio and changes sometimes break one or the other.
  • Ansible playbooks for the FreeSewing infrastructure previously published. No major feedback received.
  • Working on Jasmine dog jacket, refactoring to improve the design for the FreeSewing site.
  • PR feedback comment asking if some code was written by AI?
    • Because it appeared that an uncommon feature of JavaScript where bitwise operators was used, not commonly used by human programmers?
    • Code designer confirmed that no AI code was used. Confusion likely due to different programming language syntax accidentally used in one place.
  • Sasha skater dress PR stalled. Will it ever be accepted?
    • No problems with the actual design, just issues with the some specific parts of the code in the PR.
    • Re-iteration that the FreeSewing does intend to add the design when the PR is ready.
    • Offers to help clean up the PR to help it get merged.
    • Line art SVG (technical flats) was provided but not the finalized form? Offer to provide the finalized form.
  • We should be more clear about expectations for PR code contributions and new designs submissions. Code quality, PR quality, things that should be provided, things that should be done.
  • Polly images: We want to put the files on our site and not in the Codeberg repository. Is there anything the designer needs to do? No, this is something that Joost needs to do.
