An alternative to Discord for these Community Call meetings?
Regarding an alternate audio/video conferencing platform for our meetings, no, I don’t think there is anything being worked on currently.
Unofficiallly and informally I’ve thought about it, and I think that Jitsi Meet (a hosted instance of Jitsi that is available and free to use) might be an alternative that is ready to use immediately, if we had to stop using Discord in a hurry. Other possibilities might be to host our own Jitsi server. There was also some unofficial discussion about possibly setting up a Matrix server, and if that occurs then Matrix/Element might also be a possibility.
Edit: Added: I’ll add the topic to the meeting agenda.
We should perhaps broaden that to ‘an alternative to Discord’ in general (not just for the meetings) as that would also cover the Matrix discussion.
I also have some more things to share about the work that’s been going on, but I’m not sure yet what form that will take, so I’m not putting it on the agenda for now. I’d just like to reserve some time for this

The next March 28 meeting will also have mis-matched start times for United States and Canada community members.
FreeSewing shouldn’t be affected by the Discord policy because the FreeSewing Discord server will be marked as unrestricted. So, we are not actively planning to switch from Discord at the moment. However, someone is investigating alternatives like Matrix, in case things change or we decide we want to stop using Discord.
