January 3, 2026 Community Call

Notes:

  • What is this meeting for?
  • Projects people are up to.
    • Still working on constructing the Bucket Hat test garment.
    • Need to do relearning on on FreeSewing works, because things have changed so much, to be able to make new designs/patterns.
    • Working on instructions for a new design.
    • Figuring out how to construct new Katherine corset design, self-bound at the top. Use boning channels?
    • Thinking of what to wear to a black-tie optional wedding.
  • How to use FreeSewing without a printer? Projector, copy/print shop, drafting/copying by hand.
  • January Newsletter came out: FOSDEM, infrastructure changes, general update.
  • Fabric, synthetic fibers, economics of making your own clothes.
  • Paying for fabric recycling. Trashie. Composting fabric.
  • Welcome, Air.
  • Ideas to help fund FreeSewing. Selling merch? Leather patch. Occasional one-time donation drives, banner on website? Sending money directly to the web-hosting company?
  • Merch idea: Skully leather patches. Skull logo. Who made it? (Joost and Anneke) Why a skull? (Pirate/open source motif).
  • Historic patron levels.
