Agenda

  • Will we be skipping the next (Dec. 20) meeting on our schedule? (Like we usually do at the end of each year during the winter holiday season.)

I offer to talk a bit about what’s currently cooking (baking?) in the oven: Our approach for part-scoped design options, in the context of our progress on:

December 6, 2025 Community Call

Notes:

  • Reusable parts in Parts Library
    • Reusing one part multiple times with different options.
      • The problem is that options were global to a pattern.
      • The solution is to make it possible to make an option scoped to a part.
      • Done by naming the option a certain way: design__part_optionName
      • The infrastructure will automatically determine the correct option to use, so designers can use the plain option name, without having to worry about possible pattern-scoped options.
    • The Store is used to pass info to parts.
      • But, Freesewing isn’t aware of library-related dependencies, so sometimes info needed by a library part won’t be in the store, depending on the order that parts are drafted.
      • The solution currently being considered is to mark parts as library parts, to be drafted at the end after all the regular parts.
  • How is the Preview Site working out for people?
    • People are generally glad and grateful that it is there and available for people to use.
    • No specific feedback.
  • Joost’s FOSDEM talk proposal was accepted. Brussels Jan 31/Feb 1.
    • No details yet about the talk or schedule.
  • FreeSewing passed the 300,000 user count!
  • Should we skip the December 20 meeting?
    • Advocating for “yes”: Tradition. Possible Hawaii trip. Cyclo-cross World Cup cycling event to spectate.
    • Yes, we will be skip the Dec. 20 meeting.
    • But for those who are interested, people are still free to join the voice call on Dec. 20 at the usual time, for an informal get-together for chatting.
  • Our next Community Call is January 3, 2026.
  • Changing Jett jacket to have an option for a wider lining?
    • Jett back currently uses the same size for lining as outer shell.
    • However, a recently-made, wool Jett garment had a lining that was too small, requiring a 3-inch wider lining with a pleat.
    • Under what circumstances is a wider lining required?
      • Jacket linings are typically wider than the outer fabric.
      • Depending on fabric used.
    • Will consider what changes are needed for Jett.
  • What is this call intended for? Is it a masterclass of some sort?
    • For people to discuss FreeSewing project concerns and any other topics that people want to bring up.
