The call is organized/hosted by @tangerineshark.
The call does not have a fixed structure or agenda items. Everyone is free to suggest agenda items, ask questions, or bring ideas.

August 16, 2025 Community Call

Notes:

  • FreeSewing v4.2.0 is released.
    • Is now published on the site.
    • Site update was previously pending feedback on how to link to authors in the announcement blog post.
    • 4 new designs:
      • Devon, denim jacket
      • Jett, bomber jacket
      • Sarah, skirt block (Aldrich Metric Pattern Cutting)
      • Sunny, 18th century split-side skirt
  • FreeSewing has reached 150k registered users. (But, the purge of inactive accounts hasn’t yet been done.)
  • Can we get measurements sets from people who’ve given their permission?
    • Joost will try to work on it, along with implementing measurements backups. Not trivial task because the data is encrypted.
    • FreeSewing has 81k measurements sets.
    • If we have the data, then we can do principle component analysis and it will be useful for custoners.
  • Percy puffy pants: is almost done. Finalizing instructions and images.
  • Polly plush: Pieces taken out of Blender, but no progress on converting to FreeSewing designs. There is a inkscape_to_fs_js Inkscape plugin that could be used.
  • To create Snorlax, using a web tool to calibrate and project the pattern is useful.
  • Bowie knit skirt: almost completed.
  • Requested to make an apron.
  • Sarah contains code to create line art automatically. Can be used for other designs.
    • Thanks to Leviathan for creating line art for Percy.
  • Working on changes to Titan.
    • Currently large crossseam back measurement causes issues. Changes improve fit, especially upper leg.
    • Changes include scoop instead or in addition to slash and spread.
    • Trousers patterns are hard to fit for all body shapes.
  • Measurements comparisons.
    • Current measurement validation system implementation.
    • FreeSewing used to have models derived from neck circumference.
  • Considering starting an overly-ambitious Jett applique project.
  • Lexander made a presentation at WHY2025 hacker conference.
    • Link to video posted in Discord #community channel.
    • Good presentation, useful for non-technical people.
