Cap sleeves & collars

hi, am new here but not to freesewing. i’ve lurked on this site for years but just recently found the courage to use the software.

i have no experience with drafting patterns digitally, so this learning curve is a little steep.

for example: i would like to add cap sleeves to Teagan and Breanna but have no idea how to.

same with collars. how are they drafted? what am supposed to add or change to create a collar?

i wish there were a gallery of basic sleeves and collars we could click on and then work from there. the dickie and sleeve pattern version of what Simplicity used to put out.

anyhoo, thank you so much for your hard work. i’ve seen this site change and grow throughout the years; and feel that y’all are ready for primetime. you’ve hit the Mastodon featured topics, so get ready for an influx of federated sewists.

When you google such things, I usually find pretty good tutorials. In FreeSewing, Bibi has one variant of cap sleeves. The design is similar to Teagan, just with many more (too much) options. And the side seam can be a bit weird. But maybe worth a try.

Another way to create cap sleeves is to use the normal “Teagan” sleeves and just make them very short and add a curve to the hem line upwards. Like this:

Or you can only use the top part of the curve

i know how to add sleeves to patterns, just not to patterns in the FreeSewing software. am still learning.

maybe should have asked: do i get a cap sleeve switching the length down to 20% or do i have to go lower?

anyways, i’ll keep tinkering. thanks.

The only design that kinda switches to a cap sleeve on low sleeve lengths at the moment is the Bibi design.
