FreeSewing’s bi-weekly hangout is an informal hangout/chat/meeting that is open to everyone.
The call is organized/hosted by @tangerineshark.
The call does not have a fixed structure or agenda items. Everyone is free to suggest agenda items, ask questions, or bring ideas.

Location

This week’s meeting will be entirely on FreeSewing’s new Jitsi Meet instance.

  • You access the Jitsi Meet meeting via web browser.
  • Login is optional using your freesewing.eu account.
  • You can also just join the meeting as a guest.

Date: Saturday, August 15th, 2026, 4pm UTC, which can be found in your local time zone here.
Meetings are always at 6pm, Antwerp time.

It seems that the FreeSewing Jitsi server isn’t working. (Nothing happens when you press the “Join as [username]” or “Join as guest” buttons.)

If the problem is still there on Saturday, we’ll use the old meet.jit.si Jitsi server instead: Jitsi Meet

(what I’m saying is, I’ve fixed it)

Things I can talk about:

  • How I broke the jitsi thing because I’m juggling too many things at once
  • How much of a rabbithole that whole chat thing has been and how I’m slowly trying to reclaim my sanity by doing what we probably should have done from the start: Matrix

We gave up on the FreeSewing Jitsi instance because of technical issues. We’re now using the meet.jit.si instance.

Notes:

  • FreeSewing chat (Discord alternative):
    • Switched back to using a Matrix server.
    • chat.freesewing.eu is now up and running.
    • Only a few rooms created at the moment.
    • Uses freesewing.eu account.
  • The recent FreeSewing Jitsi link problem was due to work on the new FreeSewing website.
    • Changes inadvertently pushed to wrong branch.
    • Now resolved.
    • Will investigate audio and connection issues to try to resolve them.
  • Someone gave a talk about FreeSewing at the Linux Northwest 2026 conference.
  • FreeSewing’s 9th anniversary is this month, August.
    • Should we do something for next year’s 10th anniversary?
    • Meetups in different locations?
    • 10th anniversary outfits? Bowtie?
  • Shock gloves for crowd control.
    • Are these practical?
  • Sisi: working on sleeve and armhole formula.
    • Issues with horizontal dimensions with certain measurements.
    • Historically there are pattern drafting issues when shoulder/chest width ratio differs from standard.

It’s up and running, but this is a known upstream issue when trying to add new users to default rooms.

We’ve disabled that, so things should work now.

This is the bug:

A new release is available that fixed it, but we haven’t yet had the opportunity (or found the time) to do the upgrade.
