You are all invited to our audio/video conferencing hangout.
Please leave a comment here or on Discord to add things to the agenda.
This topic will be updated after the call with notes.
About
FreeSewing’s bi-weekly hangout is an informal hangout/chat/meeting that is open to everyone.
The call is organized/hosted by @tangerineshark.
The call does not have a fixed structure or agenda items. Everyone is free to suggest agenda items, ask questions, or bring ideas.
Access to the Jitsi Meet meeting is via web browser.
Login is optional using your freesewing.eu account.
You can also just join the meeting as a guest.
The Jitsi Meet server is currently hosted on FreeSewing’s preview site. (This will change once the preview site is deployed to the main site.) But, for now:
If the hangout link doesn’t redirect automatically, you can use the direct link: FreeSewing
For a smoother experience, users might first want to visit https://preview.freesewing.eu and sign in before trying to access the hangout link.
If you experience errors signing into the preview site, please select the “Sign in as a different user” link and then try again. (Doing this clears stale cache data that might cause problems.)
Date and Time
Date: Saturday, October 10th, 2026, 4pm UTC, which can be found in your local time zone here.
Meetings are always at 6pm, Antwerp time.
We’re getting AI bot spam, including for signups for our Mastodon server.
Currently we are not allowing bots to join our Mastodon server.
But, we want to allow real people to join.
Signup form has a place to write a little bit why you want to sign up. Hopefully people will use it to help us know they are actual people.
preview.freesewing.eu update:
Editor changes were made to work better on mobile browsers.
Please test this, if you are able to.
Editor changes were made to add functionality to be able to look up points and paths by name.
We hope for a November deployment to freesewing.eu, but ultimately it will happen when it is ready.
Welcome back “false” user when signing in to preview.freesewing.eu?
An old bug that was already fixed awhile ago.
But, users who visited previously have incorrect cache/cookies into, resulting in them seeing the bug.
Need to “sign in as a different user” once to fix the issue.
The welcome back “false” user problem is seen when signing into preview.freesewing.eu in a private/incognito window?
This should not occur.
But, yes, indeed it does occur! This is a bug. Joost will add it to his list of things to fix.
The login username field is not recognized by the Bitwarden password manager?
Joost will add to his todo list to investigate.
Showcases not matched to author.
Thinking of a way for authors to more easily claim their showcases. A “this is mine” button?
There previously was this functionality on freesewing.eu, but we got a lot of false ownership claims. Perhaps an UI issue (accidentaly button presses)?
Joost has agreed to make a FreeSewing design for MC Hammer-style parachute pants. Will be done by sometime next year.
Opal not fitting in the seat?
The pattern designer is no longer active on Discord.
Possibly ask for help on Discord or on the forum?
Also problems with the hem/seam.
Ben will look into Opal issues.
Please also submit a Codeberg issue for tracking.
There is a sewing cruise where someone intends to make FreeSewing pattern trousers.
Trousers can be somewhat difficult. Should we warn them?
Perhaps they are using a more-forgiving design like Paco.
Designs with known issues on the freesewing.eu site?
Frustrating for users.
Designers try to make good patterns, but they usually can only test their own body type.
Issues are known only when others try to make the pattern.
Warn users about issues? We can look into having Community Notes for things like this.
Tried to submit a curated measurements set, but it didn’t work?
It is known that it doesn’t work on the freesewing.eu site.
I like the idea of having ‘Community Notes’ for our designs! (My connection dropped a few times, so I missed this.)
For the new looking up points feature in the Pattern Inspector on the preview site: I tried it out and indeed I can get a list and identify a point or path, but I couldn’t find a way to bring up the Attributes/Dimensions dialog that I get when I click on a point/path. @joost: would it be possible to add that as well? Or is it there and I missed it? (I tried clicking on the button at the top, but that actually gets rid of the highlight, so that didn’t do the trick.)
You can click on any point or path to bring up the dialogue that shows its properties.
The purpose of the new functionality is to provide a way to look up a point/path/stack. So it reveals it’s location by drawing some extra markup to highlight it.
When you know where it is, you can click it as that works the same whether a point is highlighted this way ot not.
Or to put it another way: this is intended to find something. If you already jnow where it is, you can just click it directly.
Ah, I was hoping this would help with paths that I am unable to click because they are covered by other paths (or possibly hidden).
For instance, `teagan` has a sideSeam path, but I am unable to click it; when I click that area, I select the ‘seam’ path instead. If I could select the sideSeam path, I’d be able to find the length (and easily find the coordinates of the start and end).
