About

  • FreeSewing’s bi-weekly hangout is an informal hangout/chat/meeting that is open to everyone.
  • The call is organized/hosted by @tangerineshark.
  • The call does not have a fixed structure or agenda items. Everyone is free to suggest agenda items, ask questions, or bring ideas.

Location

We will again try to use FreeSewing’s new Jitsi Meet instance. Last time, we experienced widespread technical problems where cameras/microphones did not work and attendees were frequently disconnected from the meeting. Hopefully those issues will be have been resolved.

  • Access to the Jitsi Meet meeting is via web browser.
  • Login is optional using your freesewing.eu account.
  • You can also just join the meeting as a guest.

Date: Saturday, August 29th, 2026, 4pm UTC, which can be found in your local time zone here.
Meetings are always at 6pm, Antwerp time.

Notes:

  • The chat.freesewing.eu Matrix server is working now.
    • Signin/OIDC issues resolved.
    • Click on the “compass” icon to the right of the search bar to see what rooms are available.
  • 10 minutes have gone by, with nobody kicked out of the Jitsi Meet meeting, so the technical issues seem to have been resolved.
  • FreeSewing Fellowship (for infrastructure support) program.
    • 3 people signed up earlier in the year
    • They were just recently contacted.
    • There is a room on chat.freesewing.eu for discussion.
  • Work on new preview.freesewing.eu website continues, deployed hopefully by September.
    • Migrating away from Docusaurus, to Vite.
    • 30,000+ lines changed. (But, most of them were because files were moved to different paths.)
    • If anyone wants to test preview.freesewing.eu, please do.
  • Changing email addresses currently doesn’t work on both FreeSewing/preview sites (backend issue).
  • Boring robot work.
  • FreeSewing has 567k accounts, 50k patterns, 950k measurements sets.
    • It is unclear how many active users there are in FreeSewing.
  • Sisi block with single side dart:
    • Work on side seams; they are now the same length.
    • Instead of having the front side seam use front measurements and back side seam use back measurements.
    • Ease preference added.
    • Need testers.
  • Negative darts == gussets?
  • Problems signing into the FreeSewing hangout?
    • Best practice: Sign-in to preview.freesewing.eu first.
      • Click “Sign in as a different user” if you experience problems.
      • Make sure you can view your account page on preview.freesewing.eu before trying to join the hangout.
    • Best practice: Use the https://preview.freesewing.eu/hangout link.
      • The https://freesewing.eu/hangout link should redirect, but it sometimes doesn’t.
      • This issue will go away once the preview site is deployed as the main site.
  • Currently, there is a problem signing into preview.freesewing.eu by having it send you an email.
    • Apparently, the confirmation link in the email is for the regular freesewing.eu site and doesn’t work for the preview site.
    • Sign-ins using a password still work.
